How to Dress Punk for Cheap
- 1). Visit your local second-hand store or garage sales and buy a cheap pair of pants or jeans in any color, a solid color t-shirt, and any unusual accessories you may find there.
- 2). Go to a military surplus store where you should find a suitable jacket--army green battle dress uniform jacket is fine, but black is better--and a pair of black combat boots. If you'd rather not wear boots, you can look for cheap canvas sneakers at the second-hand store or discount department stores.
- 3). Find a good hardware store and buy a few feet of metal chain. Chain is often priced by the foot. You can use the chain to wear as jewelry or attach it to clothing. Buying chain from a hardware store is a lot cheaper than buying it from an apparel store or jewelry boutique.
- 4). Poke holes in the t-shirt and rip them with your hands or cut with scissors. Attach safety pins in unusual places on the shirt; for instance, you can cut the shirt lengthwise down the front and pin it together with many small safety pins for a zippered punk look.
- 5). Distress the pants in a similar fashion as the t-shirt and safety pin or hand-sew lengths of chain to the pockets. The larger sized safety pins are most suitable for the heavier fabric of denim.
- 6). Dress yourself in your new punk style. The combat boots and the jacket will help complete the look. If you have a permanent marker, draw an anarchy symbol, or another punk symbol, on one of the jacket's chest pockets. Now, after you’ve also made your hair stand up with a lot of hair gel or paste, your punk look will be complete.
