How to Remove a Gas Tank From a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix
- 1). Open the gas door and take off the gas cap. Put wheel chocks around the front tires and lift up the rear end of the Grand Prix with the jack. Slide jack stands underneath the chassis for support.
- 2). Remove the clamps holding the fuel filler neck and EVAP hose to the gas tank using either the flathead screwdriver or the pliers, depending on whether or not the clamps have been replaced before. Pull the filler neck off of the tank.
- 3). Push in and remove the quick disconnect fittings on the top of the gas tank with your hands. Slide the jack underneath the tank and lift up the head until the jack touches the bottom of the tank.
- 4). Unbolt the straps holding the tank in place with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then pull the straps out of the chassis. Slowly lower the jack and tank down until you can reach the top of the tank. Unplug the wiring to the fuel pump and sending unit with your hands.
- 5). Lower the jack the rest of the way. Slide the tank out from underneath the Pontiac.
