How to Route Motorcycle Accelerator Cables
- 1). Inspect the path of the throttle cable from the carburetor and the front of the motorcycle frame. Cut any cable stays or ties that are holding the cable in place, using wire cutters. Take care not to cut the throttle cable.
- 2). Loosen the throttle cable coupling at the top of the carburetor by turning it counterclockwise with an open-end wrench. Loosen the carburetor cap by turning it counterclockwise with offset adjustable pliers. Lift the carburetor cap off the top of the carburetor to access the throttle cable stop inside the carburetor.
- 3). Slide the ball end of the throttle cable out of the cable stop inside the carburetor. Depending on the model of the carburetor, it may be necessary to loosen a cable stop screw to remove the ball end of the cable from the stop. Use a small screwdriver to turn the cable stop screw counterclockwise until the ball end of the cable can be removed from the cable stop. Pull the end of the cable out of the opening in the center of the carburetor cap and set the cap aside.
- 4). Grip the throttle cable near the end and push it toward the handlebars until a section of the cable bows away from the motorcycle. Grip the bowed section of the cable and push the cable toward the handlebars. Continue this until the cable is way from the motorcycle and hanging from the throttle twist grip.
- 5). Hold the handlebar grips and turn the front wheel of the motorcycle so it is pointing straight ahead, not to one side or the other.
- 6). Bow the throttle cable by hand and create a uniform bend between the twist grip and the upper tube of the motorcycle frame, just in front of the gas tank. Attach the cable to the frame using a nylon tie.
- 7). Position the cable along the underside of the gas tank. Insert the end of a nylon tie between the gas tank and the upper tube of the motorcycle frame at the midpoint of the gas tank. Pull the end of the tie down and around the throttle cable. Fasten the tie.
- 8). Create a gentle bend in the throttle cable from the back of the gas tank to the top of the carburetor. Attach the upper end of the bend to the frame with a nylon tie.
- 9). Insert the end of the cable through the opening in the center of the carburetor cap. Reconnect the ball end of the cable to the ball stop in the carburetor. Tighten the ball stop screw if necessary.

Thread the carburetor cap clockwise onto the carburetor by hand. Tighten the cap clockwise using the offset adjustable pliers. Thread the throttle cable coupler clockwise onto the carburetor cap. Tighten the coupler clockwise with the open-end wrench.
