This is true with the majority of people.
When we talk of fitness, we have to make a little effort every day.
Our human body is amazingly adaptive to the situations, just that you don't see it happening overnight.
We all want instant results out of everything we do because the pace we are living our lives in going faster and faster.
Instant foods, instant relief's and so on.
But nature does takes it time, works on a step at a time.
Our body is natural and it should be that way! So if you really want to get fit and see the results there are few main things to keep in mind which I guess are the keys to any kind of fitness regime, be it weight loss, building muscles , building endurance, getting in shape.

It's how badly you want it, your WILL.
If you want something bad you will make the right efforts.
There are no short cuts but you just have to be consistent in your efforts, consistency is the key.
You will definitely see the results.

Take up an exercise program.
No pills or syrups will help you in the long run.
They might give you instant results but you will get back out of shape again and this tie it will be worse, you might be taking some side effects as well.
Don't make a lab out of you body to experiment.
Start with something light like a jogging, this will stretch out your body and prepare it for some thing more.
Your exercise should be progressive.
Don't jump into something right away.
Give your body a little time to adapt.
Cardio's are good way to start up.
There are so many benefits which you won't even take notice of.

Give up those old food habits.
Habits are tough to break but it's again the will to do things.
Leave the junk and the processed.
Go for natural stuff.
Eat healthy.
Don't take too much of calories.
Make a calorie count of what you are eating.
Low carb drinks are no good either, have a lot of fresh water,that will help hydrate your body as well as flushing out the toxins.
