How to Put Down Laminate Tiles in a Bathroom
- 1). Shut off the water line behind the toilet, by turning the valve clockwise. Disconnect the line from the toilet with a wrench. Take out the floor bolts holding the toilet base to the floor. Lift the toilet and carry it out of the room.
- 2). Use a chalk snap line to divide the floor into four square sections, laying two intersecting lines over the middle of the room. Use a square to make sure the two lines are exactly perpendicular to one another.
- 3). Pull the wax paper backing off the first tile. Press it to the floor at the intersection, in the corner formed by the two lines.
- 4). Pull the wax paper from the back of the second tile and press it alongside the first tile, getting them tightly together. Repeat, laying each new tile tightly against the previous one and building out in a grid pattern. Lay all the full tiles that will fit, leaving the areas open around the toilet drain and the perimeter by the walls.
- 5). Cut the tiles around the perimeter of the floor using your utility knife, scoring them by running the knife along the square and then bending them until they break.
- 6). Lay full tiles over the toilet drain (without peeling off the backing), trace the curve of the drain onto the surface of each tile, cut it away with your utility knife. Pull off the paper and set the cut tiles around the drain.
- 7). Put the toilet back in place over the cut tiles, tightening the floor bolts and reconnecting the water line. Caulk around the base of the toilet where it meets the tiles.
