The Things to Find for a Park Scavenger Hunt

    Coins

    • Add quarters, pennies, nickels and dimes to the list. To make this particularly hard, add other currency, like a Canadian Loonie, or add old antique coins to the list. And of course whoever finds the coin first gets to keep it.

    Graffiti

    • Searching for graffiti makes for a good detective work. Check park benches and jungle gyms for scrawled love notes, "M+C," "(person's name) was here," "I heart (object)" or particular dates to make for an especially hard scavenger hunt.

    People and Clothes

    • Nothing beats people watching, especially when you are participating in an odd and diverse scavenger hunt. To make a unique list, include people to find. For example, you could have the players find an elderly woman walking a dog, a mime, a laughing child, a couple holding hands, a biker smoking, a college student carrying a green backpack or a woman with a dog in her purse. Look for people in specific types of clothes, too. Add fun items like an 80's style crop-top, red leggings, army boots, a yellow headband, someone in camouflage, doggy clothes or a sports-themed baseball cap.

    Park Amenities

    • A yellow slide, a sand castle, a swing, a patch of flowers, a group of rocks spelling out a name, a bathroom sign, a park rules sign, a teeter-totter, a climbing pole or a plastic game of X's and O's attached to the jungle gym are all common park amenities worth putting on your list.

    Animals and Nature

    • A sunflower, a tree with names carved into it, an evergreen tree, a cat on a leash, a blue bird, a snowy tree, moss, animal tracks, a maple leaf, a cardinal, a blue jay, wild bunnies, a daisy with half its petals missing, a four-leaf-clover, a prickly plant and a cloud shaped like a dinosaur are all natural things that you could find in a park that could be added to your list.

    Litter

    • While litter-bugs should not be praised, garbage does make for a good scavenger hunt selection. Search out old gum and soda wrappers or particular styles of plastic drinking bottles.
