How to Treat Iron Contamination in Water

104 28
    • 1). Have a water professional perform an analysis of your water. You may be able to get by with a water softener to reduce the iron concentration. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.

    • 2). Have the professional install an oxidation-filtration system. There are several kinds but they share the common strategy of oxidizing (rusting) the iron in order to be able to filter it out of the water.

    • 3). Request that the system have a strong backwash flow. You'll need this for high iron concentrations because they quickly clog up filters and need to be blown back out so the filter doesn't need such frequent replacement.
