- 1). Clean the floor area thoroughly with a stiff-bristled floor broom to remove any dirt or debris, then use a scraper, if necessary, to remove any built-up concrete or other material adhered to the floor surface.
- 2). Apply a solution of tri-sodium phosphate (TSP) cleaner and degreaser to the floor area using a stiff-bristled broom or brush to remove any oil, grease, paint, or other foreign material from the floor surface. Then rinse the floor thoroughly with clean water and allow to fully dry.
- 3). Fill any fissures or large cracks greater than 1/8 inch wide in the concrete using a concrete patching compound or caulk, then allow any patching done to cure according to the manufacturer's specifications. Make certain to finish any patching done to flush with the adjacent floor surface. Epoxy coatings have a tendency to exaggerate any imperfections in the floor surface.
- 4). Etch the floor area using a solution of muriatic acid mixed with water according to the manufacturer's instructions. Work the solution into the floor's surface, then rinse with a hose and allow to dry.
- 1). Mix the industrial resin epoxy according to the manufacturer's instructions in a quantity specified for the area being covered.
- 2). Spread the epoxy coating mixture evenly on the floor surface using a a paint roller equipped with an extension pole. Begin the application at one side and use overlapping strokes in a single direction to apply the epoxy, making certain to keep the roller well saturated. A paint brush can be used to cut-in the epoxy coating along walls or edges.
- 3). Let the coated floor area cure for a minimum of 6 to 8 hours, then apply a second coat of the epoxy mixture to the entire floor area. The second coating of resin epoxy must cure for a minimum of 48 to 72 hours before allowing foot traffic on the floor, and for no less than 5 days before allowing vehicle parking, furnishings or equipment to be placed on the new epoxy coated area.
