Frigidaire was founded in 1916 and is one of the oldest appliance companies in the United States. Today, Frigidaire sells a wide range of appliances, from ovens and refrigerators to washers and dryers. Modern Frigidaire dryers are digital. They have keypads for programming drying times and temperatures. When there is a mechanical problem with the dryer, an error code flashes on the digital screen. Each error code corresponds to a specific malfunction. Consult your owner's manual for troubleshooting tips and error code information. - The E24 code indicates a problem with the dryer's thermostat or thermistor, the mechanism that controls the dryer's temperature. This code either indicates a problem with the wiring between the thermistor and the control pad, or a short in the thermistor itself. If you have checked the wiring and the error code still appears, try replacing the thermistor. If you replace the thermistor and still see the error code, you may need to replace the digital sensors.
- E28 indicates a problem with the heater itself (as opposed to the heater's controls). This code appears when there has been no heat change during the drying cycle. Sometimes this is a problem with the wiring between the control board and the dryer's computer. Other times, E28 indicates a faulty control board.
- The code E68 appears when one of the buttons on the keypad is stuck in the down position. This is a common error with several different Frigidaire dryer models and tends to occur when the dryer is five or more years old. You may be able to un-stick the offending key manually. If not, you will need to replace the entire keypad.
- E4A corresponds to the automatic shut-off controls; this code appears when the dryer has failed to shut off at the programmed time. If your dryer is flashing E4A, stop using it until you can fix the problem. Dryers that do not shut off automatically pose a fire hazard.
- E8C appears when the safety thermostat is tripped several times in a row. The safety thermostat is a fail-safe measure that shuts down the dryer when the temperature gets too hot. If the safety thermostat is consistently tripped, it indicates a problem with the automatic shut-off controls. Often, codes E8C and E4A will flash together.
