How to Use a Fountain Pump

Determine the amount of water used to fill the water feature. Use gallon jugs to fill the pond or pool, marking down each gallon used. - 2). Select a pond pump which is capable of circulating the amount of water in the garden pond or pool. Home improvement store staff can aid in the selection process.
- 3). Select a filtering system, which is compatible with the pump purchased. The filter and replaceable filter pads collect pond debris and algae, which clouds and decreases water quality.

- 5). Attach outdoor electrical cord to pump plug, do not plug into exterior outlet yet.
- 6). Place pump in water feature, center of the garden pond or pool recommended for balanced flow of water filtration. Press suction cups attached to the bottom of the pump firmly to the base of the garden pond or pool.
- 7). Screw fountain nozzle attachment onto the plastic tube attached to all styles of pond pump. Firmly screw the nozzle onto the threaded pump tube. Water will spray around the nozzle coupling if not secured tightly enough.
- 8). Attach filter compartment to the side tube attached to the fountain pump. The tube is threaded to screw filter firmly onto the pump mechanism. Plug outdoor extension cord into exterior outlet.
- 9). Test water with purchased kit. Follow package insert instructions on water testing and quality before adding plants or fish to the water.
