  During a 1992 trade fair held in Reno, Nevada, to promote his family's prestigious Villa Sandi winery, Mario Moretti Polegato, decided to take a break and go for a stroll. Wearing a pair of rubber-soled shoes, his feet became over-heated and sweaty. Frustrated, he punctured holes into his soles to freshen and cool his feet with air and slow down the perspiration. This simple scheme worked and his concept was patented. Geox began with five employees in 1994. Polegato's product and corporation became the biggest success story in Italy. Geox became global and turned into a multimillion-dollar, large-scale production of shoes under that brand name. Mario Moretti Polegato is listed as one of the world's richest entrepreneurs on Forbes 500 list.
  
  

Concept in Action

• Polegato of Geox made sense with his concept. The human body constantly emits heat especially during physical exercise. In their original design, Geox created a cavity within the shoe with membrane-lined air vents, which allows the warm, humid air to escape and eliminates the sweaty feet syndrome. Rubber soles cause perspiration to be trapped inside footwear, resulting in not only being uncomfortable but creating a high chance of developing athlete's foot. Geox punctured the rubber outsole, for the purpose to permit moisture to escape with the ending results of keeping your feet dry.
  
  

Water-Resistant Leather Sole

• Leather was not left out either
  
  Although leather is a natural and breathable component in shoes, leather soles lose that advantage in water. In this situation, they become similar to their counterpart, the sport shoe by retaining moisture, resulting in wet feet. In the past, shoe manufacturers have never been able to resolve this problem. Going to work on this dilemma, Geox created a breathable, water-resistant membrane into its leather sole. This layer reduces the uncomfortable, soggy sensation inside of leather shoes when it rains.
  
  

Shoe-Biz Styling

• Taking the world by storm with the introduction of its sports shoes for men, women and children, the corporation expanded. The timing was right for a new line of shoes that would be stylish and practicable. The complete Geox collection now includes dress, sandals, casual styles and boots that format to the designs of the season.
  
  

Golf

• There was nothing left behind in the world of shoes for Geox except shoes for avid golfers. By 2009, Geox introduced its first line of golf shoes made with its patented waterproof sole and inner-sole membrane.
