How to Make a Laptop Into a VCR
- 1). Connect the external TV tuner card to a USB port on the laptop computer. There are expansion card slot TV tuner cards, but these are often more expensive and more time-consuming to install.
- 2). Insert the driver installation CD into the computer. Once the installation wizard loads onto the screen, follow the prompts to install the driver onto the computer. Restart the computer once the installation is complete (if required).
- 3). Eject the driver installation CD from the laptop, then insert the software installation CD. Click "Next" on the installation screen's welcome page, then accept the end-user agreement. Click "Next" two more times, then select "Install," and the software installs onto the computer.
- 4). Connect the outside television signal to the TV tuner card via coaxial cable. (Insert the coaxial cable into the "Out" port on the cable/satellite receiver, then plug the other end of the cable into the "In" port on the TV tuner card.)
- 5). Launch the software you just installed, select the station you want to view, then click "Record." The software now records the content, the same as a standard VCR.
