• The Cheapside Cafe, located inside the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, serves sandwiches, light entrees and salads. The setting is laid back, and the interior is filled with art in bright colors. The menu includes French dishes like chilled vichyssoise, as well as soups and sandwiches that come with French sausages and cheeses. Chez Tess Creperie

• Chez Tess Creperie advertises itself as Halifax's first creperie. Its popular Roscoff crepe has Swiss cheese, asparagus, honey-baked ham and green apples in an Emmental cheese and cream sauce. Guests often choose Fruit Explosion, a combination of pineapple, strawberries and blueberries. Chez Tess also offers French seafood chowder and onion soup.
