You demand an explanation from your ex, as to why the sudden decision to break up.
This, of course, makes your ex even angrier and determined to leave immediately, create even more hurt and anger for both of you.
It would have been in your best interests to rather accept your ex's decision in a calm way, and allow him/her to leave of his/her own free will.
Remember, tantrums are the actions of naughty children, and as an adult, this type of situation should be handled in a mature manner.
It is understandable that you are hurt and angry, but begging, pleading, and threatening will not help you in your efforts to win your ex back.
It will, of course, have an adverse effect on your efforts and push your ex away even further.
Remind yourself too, that your ex is probably feeling exactly the same way you are, and, if you care enough for him/her, should respect these feelings.
You will have a much better chance to win your ex back if you show that you can accept the trauma of the break up in a mature way.
You should also accept the fact that both you and your ex are going to need some time to think about what has happened, and what action should be taken.
You of course, want nothing more but to win your ex back, and he she has to make the decision whether to get back together with you again, or go his/her own way.
You will both need time to carry out your respective actions.
After the break up, you must first take the time to get over all your bad feelings before even thinking of trying to win your ex back.
Only this way will you be able to talk rationally and clearly to your ex about a possible reconciliation.
To try and contact your ex so soon after the break up will only result in more bad feelings for both of you.
By all means, let your ex know, indirectly, through mutual friends or via email, that you are still interested in him/her and would like to see them sometime, but then leave it there.
Don't make contact again for a while.
Your ex knows how you feel, and more than likely does sympathise with you, but is also not in a position to discuss reconciliation just yet.
Be the adult you are and deal with the situation in a mature manner.
This will indicate to your ex that you respect yourself as well as his/her wishes, and he/she will more than likely admire you for this, and your chances to win your ex back will have increased dramatically.
