- 1). Purchase the newest version of Microsoft Office if you haven't already. This software can be found online and in most local computer and electronics retailers. The program can also be purchased directly from the Microsoft website. Be sure to get the version that best fits your needs: student, home or business.
- 2). Close any and all programs running on the computer. Word and other Microsoft Office programs are especially important to turn off because the computer can't install the upgrade when the program it is upgrading is running.
- 3). Insert the program disk and follow the prompts through the installation. The installation disk will take you through the entire process, and may take an hour or more to complete. When prompted for information be sure to give the most accurate information you can. When the installation is finished, restart your computer to solidify the changes, and the installation is finished.
