How to Clean Mobile Upholstery
- 1). Vacuum the upholstery prior to cleaning to remove any loose dirt and debris.
- 2). Mix the upholstery shampoo as per the manufacturer's specifications. Test the mixture on an inconspicuous spot on the upholstery. Check for color loss.
- 3). Treat spots and trouble areas, such as the head rest, with an upholstery spot cleaner. Apply the spot cleaner to a clean terry cloth or microfiber towel. Then, gently work the spot cleaner into the fabric. Blot the excess moisture with a clean, dry towel. Repeat as necessary.
- 4). Agitate the shampoo solution with a sponge to create a thick foam. Wring out the sponge. Scoop up a fair amount of foam with the sponge. Gently work the foam into the fabric with overlapping, circular motions. Use a clean, white terry cloth or microfiber towel to blot excess moisture from the upholstery. Work on one small area at a time. Continue until all upholstery is clean.
- 5). Open the windows and allow the upholstery to dry.
- 1). Purchase a leather cleaner and conditioner. Automotive stores tend to have the best selection of brands. Choose a conditioner which contains sun block; it will help protect the leather from harmful UV rays.
- 2). Mix the leather cleaner (if necessary; most are ready to use out of the bottle). Apply it to a clean, terry cloth or microfiber towel. Then, test the solution on an inconspicuous area of the leather.
- 3). Apply more cleaner to the towel, and using an overlapping, circular motion, work the solution into the leather. Dry with a clean, dry towel. Work on one small area at a time.
- 4). Open the windows and allow the leather to dry before applying the leather conditioner.
- 5). Moisten a clean, dry towel with the leather conditioner. Apply a generous amount of conditioner to the leather in the same manner as it was cleaned, in overlapping circles. Allow the conditioner to sit for a short while (consult the manufacturer's recommendations). Buff with a clean, dry terry cloth or microfiber towel.
