    Running Head

    • The header of a standard APA style document is a running head. The running head is a condensed title that appears at the top of each page in the article. The running head should be 50 characters or less in length, including any punctuation and spacing, and appear in all capital letters.

    Condensed Title

    • The condensed title should convey the primary words of the original document title and be sufficient to allow the reader to easily identify the document.

    Placement on Title Page

    • The running head should be typed flush left at the top of the title page. Begin with the label "Running Header:" and continue with the condensed title. Indicate the page number on the same line, with text flush right. Display only the number, without additional text.

    Placement on Subsequent Pages

    • On subsequent pages, the running head should be typed flush left at the top of the page, but should not include the label. The page number is also contained on the same line, with text flush right.
