The Severity of Ketek Liver Failure

How dangerous is Ketek? This is a common question many people ask in order to arrive at accurate information. After all, the media is prone to exaggerate and some may respond to the negative reports regarding Ketek to be exaggerated. While it is not without precedent for media reports to overstate problems, in the case of Ketek many of the negatives have been underreported. This assertion is based on many documented reports of Ketek liver failure.

This is because there is a high level of liver toxicity in Ketek. In other words, the drug literally damages the liver during the period where the antibiotic is metabolized. The result of this poisoning is liver damage of varying degrees. In the most severe cases, liver failure is the end result. When this occurs the liver can no longer serve its primary function. Without a functioning liver, a person's chances of survival are quite minimal. As such, Ketek is rightfully considered one of the most dangerous antibiotics to have ever been produced.

Sadly, Ketek liver failure is not necessarily the result of using the antibiotic for extended periods of time. Nor is Ketek liver failure the exclusive result of not properly following the directions on the antibiotic's packaging. In fact, even following the suggested recommended dosage can lead to Ketek liver failure within a relatively short period of time. Yes, improper use of the drug can exacerbate the onset of liver damage but proper usage of the drug will by no means prevent it. We know this because there are those who have suffered adverse reactions from the antibiotic after one 400 mg dose.

In the case of Ketek liver failure, it is critical to seek medical attention as soon as possible. The treatment for liver is severe and it generally involves liver transplant surgery. Being a candidate for a liver transplant does not automatically mean one will be able to receive a liver transplant. As such, the disastrous release of Ketek is often considered one of the worst cases of an inferior drug reaching the marketplace due to severe negligence. Needless to say, this is the reason why so many Ketek lawsuits have been filed in recent months.
