- 1). Let God lead your services. You and the entire congregation are there at church to praise God, and the best ministry leaders have said that when they give a sermon they are simply allowing God to speak through them. It's important to be creative and charismatic when delivering God's message, but never lose sight of the fact that it is God's message. This will also help you if you're not confident in your leadership skills. You have been placed in the role of a leader because God chose you. Trust in His good judgment, and you'll be fine.
- 2). Be respectful of the senior pastor's ministry philosophy and do your best to adhere to it. There are many methods of ministry, and they are all equally valid as long as they do not violate Scripture. However, it's important to keep the Biblical doctrine of the senior pastor and the other church leaders in mind when you are performing your duties as a ministry leader. Going against what have become established teachings in your church can be seen as disrespectful, and it could even provide confusingly mixed messages to your congregation. Once again, it's important to be creative with your own ministry style, but it is equally important to honor the teachings of the senior leaders.
- 3). Know your audience and be the person your congregation needs you to be. While it's true that everyone has their own ministry style, going totally against the grain of what the congregation expects and needs you to be will just leave them cold. Each church has its own culture, and it is in your best interest as a ministry leader to be a part of that culture. Just because you are in front of the church delivering a sermon does not mean that you are no longer a part of the congregation. All leaders are a part of whatever organization they are leading, and far too many people forget that. Never allow yourself to think that you are more important than the rest of the congregation.
