- From flat wood boards to rough wood, all wood fences are timber fences.wood fence image by Irina Efremova from Fotolia.com
Whether you already have a timber fence or looking to add one, a timber fence can add a bit of modern or rustic appeal to your property, depending on how it's decorated. Timber fences are fences that are made of wood, and the style of timber fencing runs the gamut from modern wood board fences to the rough split rail fence. - Whether wood fences are made from rustic logs or simple boards, a coat of paint can spruce them up. For a traditional look, apply a coat of primer, followed by a coat of white paint. If you're hoping for a bolder look, try a brick red, or if you want the fence to remain unseen, go for green. For a fun fence children will love, invite friends and neighbors over to create an abstract painting masterpiece using the paint colors of their choice.
- If you like the look of timber but want a little more, try mixing timber with another medium, such as iron panels or field fence to obtain the desired look. To add a touch of history, use old wrought-iron fence pieces and timber posts to create a look all yours, or if something a little more unique is wanted, attach custom-made wrought iron panels with a design of your own between timber posts.
- If the rustic style fits you and the look of your home, rough a new fence up a bit to give it a more worn out look. Use a rougher grade sand paper to sand each board, creating grooves. If the boards already stained or painted, the natural color of the board should show through to the top. If sanding each board doesn't sound like it's for you, purchase chemicals as the local home improvement store to create a weathered effect.
