    Serving Tools

    • Serving thread, jigs and string separators are used for compound bow maintenance and tuning. Serving thread is wrapped around the center of the string for protection. Serving thread wraps also are installed to hold peep sights, string leeches and other accessories on the bowstring. The jig hold the thread and makes consecutive wraps with the thread. The string separator is a simple piece of metal with a thin fork that wedges between the string and separates the strands.

    Bow Press

    • The bow press is manufactured in several different styles, but all presses serve the same purpose. The press adds pressure to the limbs and relieves tension from the string. The bow press primarily is used when adding new string and cables to the bow, but it is also used to service the axles and cams. The ratchet-style bow press is the least expensive, but stable table style presses are preferred for adding even pressure to the limbs.

    Wrenches and Pliers

    • The hex wrench is standard for compound bows. The size of the wrench required varies by manufacturer, but a set of standard hex wrenches is sufficient for most bows. The wrench is used to install and adjust the arrow rest, sights, sheath and other accessories. Every compound bow owner should own a set of hex wrenches for field and home tuning tasks. Nock pliers are also a standard tool for crimping accessories on the bowstring and cutting accessories off the string without cutting the string itself.

    Wax and Oil

    • Wax is a standard tool for maintaining and preserving the bowstring. Dry strings are prone to cracking and wear. Oil is also a necessary tool for the axles. The pivot point requires an occasional drop of oil to maintain silence and smooth function.

    Scales, Squares, Levels

    • Digital and manual scales are available with a clip for the nocking loop and grip for drawing the string. The scales measure the draw weight and help determine what adjustments to the weight are necessary. Squares are used to take measurements on the string and determine the placement of accessories like peep sights and nock loops. Leveling devices are available in laser form for adjusting and aligning the nock loop and arrow rest for a perfectly level arrow.
