Marvelous Teeny Dollhouse Pieces: Pattern Points
Designing by Mood
Designers might know about lighting, and colors, but only the great ones design for mood. The mood of the room is chosen by the expectations of those that do, or plan to use it. A great example is a play room where the sole purpose of the room is to have fun and enjoy oneself. A bedroom would have a personal setting to illustrate the mood of that individual and help them feel comfortable. Just as houses are dictated by mood, a great dollhouse should as well. Visualize what mood you would like to portray in your rooms, for what purposes would they have that room and what particular mood would they set. The more you can portray the appropriate move, the more you will convince your friends and family your great skills as a miniaturist.
Miniatures and Contrast: Beauty with an Edge
The definition of a contrast is two distinct or different items that draw attention to one another. Contrast in interior design makes the eye roll over certain areas of the room and focus on a couple of segments or patterns. For the best color contrast look at a color wheel and choose colors that are opposite one another. When dealing with color contrast remember that it is easy to over due it and come out cluttered. In order to prevent yourself from creating a mess, focus on setting up one contrasting element in the room and no more.
Floor Trim for your Dollhouse
Everyone likes to tweak there dollhouses from time to time. The last dollhouse that I was making I discovered a great addition that really made my interior stand out. I simply created a floor board to use for the trim around the floor of the dollhouse. Floor Trim is not a new creation, but what I found is instead of buying it, to use a very thin balsa wood found in most craft stores. I painted them white, which went with all the walls in my dollhouse, and attached them to the floors throughout the house. My biggest discovery is when the trim hid most of the fine mistakes between the floor and the wall. The wallpaper walls were also trimmed and I was really happy to see that it prevented fraying due to covering the edges. This discovery truly was a small one, but I believe that it really added to my dollhouse.
Dollhouse Exterior Design
Once you have completed your inside design, it is time to look again at the exterior design and some ways to make it look better. The Paint of the dollhouse along with the look of the shingles is the first thing that you notice with your exterior. Three coats of high quality paint, recommended for dollhouses, is the minimum for dollhouse display. The shingles should be died and applied carefully using a ruler to assure that the lines are straight. In addition to the paint and shingles a couple of accessories like a barbeque or bird house will add to the attractiveness. There are even tiny additions like shutters and flower pots that you can add. Lighting is another addition that will really help the look of the outside features. Lights around the porch are the most common, if you have a gazebo place a light in the center so that the light will shine down through.
