How to Decorate a Cupcake for a Wedding Shower
- 1). Choose a frosting color that matches the overall color scheme of the wedding. The color of frosting can be any color you like. Experiment with shades by adding concentrated gel color to small bowls of buttercream frosting until you achieve the color you want. Colors vary from bold, like deep reds and navy, to funky, like hot pink and green, to more classic colors like ivory and pastels.
- 2). Frost the cupcake in the manner that you like. Place the frosting in the center of the cupcake and with a clockwise and then counterclockwise movement spread the frosting to the edges with a spatula until the top is smooth. Or use a star cake-decorating tip and a circular motion to layer the frosting like an ice cream cone for a raised effect.
- 3). Use a round cake-decorating tip and a contrasting color of frosting to pipe details on the cupcake such as the initials of the bride and groom, their wedding date or the bride's new last name. Or create mini wedding dresses or wedding bells with lacework on the cupcake with this tip.
- 4). Dress up the cupcake by adding ribbons, long wedding bows, roses and ruffles with a ruffle (tear-shaped) decorating tip.
- 5). Sprinkle decorations on top. Some popular choices include miniature candy, candy flowers, candy hearts, edible pearls, crystal candy sugar and seasonal-shaped sprinkles.
- 6). Place fresh fruit on the top such as blueberries, cherries, raspberries or strawberries to add a punch of color to a cupcake.
