Christmas yard decorations enhance your home for the holidays and make perfect use of your yard or garden property during that "off" season of the year when little or nothing is growing.
Think of such use of your yard and garden area as a chance to much more than plants and foliage -- it turns the holiday season into a time for growing family fun and memories.
Some of my fondest memories of childhood are the carefully crafted Christmas yard decorations my father put together in his workshop.
He was a carpenter by trade and ambition, and holiday woodworking crafts were a happy hobby of his.
My family's handiwork (chiefly my father's) ranged from a carefully cut out plywood Santa sanded smoothly and hand painted to greet guests walking up to our door, to the more elaborate, colorful Christmas lights strung throughout our bushes and trees.
That hard, but fun, family work turned many holiday seasons into cherished memories for me -- far more memorable than our indoor Christmas trees, really.
In many climates, November through February are times when most gardens are left "fallow," with little or no growth going on.
It's called winter -- and in most parts of the U.
S.
, yards and gardens simply bide time through the winter to get to the new growth and fun of spring, summer, and autumn.
But don't waste such opportunities; utilize your garden space to showcase your creativity with such holiday decorations.
One of the major joys of having your outdoor space is the freedom and creativity it gives you to express your "holiday spirit" with Christmas yard decorations.
As long as you hold yourself within the bounds of community good taste -- and this being the holiday season, why would you do otherwise? -- you are free to decorate as you wish.
(One heads-up, however: If you live in a community with covenants, ownership rules and regulations, etc.
, be sure your Christmas decorations aren't in violation of those rules.
) An excellent option for Christmas outdoor decorations is the blend of live, growing decor with lights and figurines.
Take advantage of bushes and trees to highlight the strings of lights, Nativity figurines, and all the traditional decorations used to call up the warmth and joy of the season.
And if you live in a suburban area, you can drive around nearby neighborhoods for decor and decoration ideas.
Take some pictures of what the neighbors are doing for outdoor decorations home with you, then add your own special touch, and you've got everything you need to beautify and enhance your garden for the holidays.
Don't let that yard or garden go to waste through the winter.
Especially at holiday time, use Christmas yard decorations to enhance your home and build joyous memories for your family!
