- 1). Set the parameters of your dating. Decide if you are in an exclusive relationship with your partner or if you want to date other people. You will both need to set your expectations of the other and come to an agreement that makes you both happy. Expect to be away from each other for long periods of time. - 5). Schedule time off to be together. Travel to a central location to meet. According to a USA Today article, "Avoid putting off a fight for fear you might spoil a visit. Whatever bothers you has to be surmounted for your relationship to advance, so avoiding conflict only delays the inevitable."
- 6). End the relationship when you know it is not working. Signs like fewer calls or avoidance will let you know the other party may be drifting away. It's hard to know when it is over when you are dating long distance. Confirm it by asking and, if it is over, moving on.
