Because of a lack of funding, many schools are forced to conduct fundraisers to pay for special trips and organizations. Sixth-grade students are mature enough and old enough to help carry out their own fundraisers. There are several ways these students can successfully raise money for a cause or organization, including candy sales, car washes and penny drives. - Candy sales are one way for sixth-grade students to raise funds for their organizations. Candy bars and suckers are affordable for peers to buy. Most sales can be conducted among the student body without asking parents and students to go door to door to sell items. With products typically costing less than $2, sixth-graders can easily handle the money and make change themselves. This leads to a more independent fundraiser. In addition, candy is consumable and desired by students---making for repeat customers.
- A car wash serves two purposes for sixth-grade students: They raise money and learn the reward of working hard for their money. There is no or little overhead cost in conducting a car-wash fundraiser. The event needs little planning. The fundraiser can be completed in one day, or several car washes can be carried out through a spring or summer.
- A penny drive is a successful fundraiser because sixth-graders can raise money without approaching outside sources. Sixth-grade students often carry their own change and contribute without requiring parents to give money. Students get involved in the fundraiser when competition is added to see which team or class raises the most money. Silver coins take away from points while pennies add to points.
