Ubuntu Linux, an alternate Operating System for Your PC
Ubuntu Linux is a very reliable and secure operating system. If you want to have a glimpse of this operating system without installing it you can do very easily with a Live CD. Now let me tell you what you can do once you are using Live CD to boot up your System. The only disadvantage of using a Live CD lies in the fact that you cannot save your files (But there are alternate ways) and the Operating System won't be there once reboot your system unless you use the Live CD again to boot your computer. But this is also true that Live CD is not meant for working with Office package and hearing songs or watching a movie.
Usually we use a Live CD when we want to diagnose a problem or when we want to backup data from our hard disk drive. The process of taking backup of data from your Windows Computer is pretty simple. First you need to boot your computer with a Live CD. Once you get the desktop you can see the Windows partitions under Places menu which can be found at the upper left hand corner. You won't need to work too hard to open the partitions. The next step is to locate the source folder(s) and destination folder(s) and simply copy or cut from Source folder(s) to destination folder(s).
Isn't it pretty easy? This is not all. Let me tell you that you can do everything using a Live CD compared to an Operating System which is actually installed. You can open Office files, access internet and even play games. And if you actually want to install the Operating System you can select the Button Install which will be available while you boot your computer with a Live CD. If you want to install Windows based application you need to install wine tool which is available in Synaptic Package Manager. Once Wine is installed you can install some though not all Windows based application. Again if you want to share files between Linux and Windows you can install samba. You can contact an online computer repair service provider for getting Linux support.
Ubuntu comes with huge range of softwares like open office, Firefox browser, movie player, an email client, CD burning software and lots more. Once you are connected to the internet you can download lots more as per your choice from Ubuntu Software Centre. If you face any problem with codec for opening YouTube movies or play some movies you can download them from the internet and in most cases they are available free of cost. There are lots more what you can do like getting a 3D desktop. Some of these will be available in my next post.
