We Are Unique - That Is Why We Are Here
Depression is a multi-million dollar medical problem for millions of people.
They suffer from symptoms that vary from mild to those requiring hospitalization.
Why is depression so prevalent in today's society and why are we at risk for maladies such as this? The answer comes to our mind -- our mind is producing thousands upon thousands of thoughts per day and we must categorize them or delete those that we do not want to contend with.
However, to some it is really not such an easy task.
The panic rush of everyday living causes everyone to be on an emotional treadmill that takes us from the elated to the depths of a world that is better left unseen.
But why are some people less susceptible and others more affected by thoughts and depression? When the race to have and control more gets into the life of individuals, they tend to forget the true realities of what is or is not important.
For example, recently my son's house burned down to the ground.
All his collections, favorite tapes, books, and pictures were destroyed right along with the furniture and mementos that he and his family had treasured.
While shock and disbelief were valid emotions, in the wake the thought of how truly insignificant these items, each and every one of them, really were.
The true blessings were that no one was hurt.
They were safe and unharmed.
But the stark reality of realizing that you only have the clothes you were wearing at the time and a few items in your car, set the mind to survival mode.
At times like this, it is family, friends, and other people who were caring, sharing, and truly trying to be of help.
The broken china, glassware, and video games lay in muck and water on the floor in a shell of a house that was destroyed in less than an hour.
But who they were deep inside in the recesses of their soul - that was not only intact but actually revelling in a brilliance that was a miracle.
The objects or "things" that were gone could not even shine a light to the love and friendship that was being offered.
These were the true treasures of life - this is what life is all about and why we are all here.
As in a Star Trek movie - we are on a mission - to a frontier - of who we are, why we are here, and how we are going to reach our destination and goal of having lived a life that will bring us joy and true glorious closure.
Depression while being a medical malady can be turned around if only people realized that they are valuable, and irreplaceable bodies in this world.
Each person is here for a reason, each has something to say or accomplish, and everyone has the right to be heard and respected.
When all of mankind can stand up for the rights of others to have their hopes and dreams come to harvest, when we can care more for the betterment of others and place our needs and wants on the side a bit, then the light of peace of mind, tranquility and true meaning of life will shine through and nothing can put out the brightness that this display of love can produce.
I am not saying that everyone who suffers from depression or any form thereof should not seek medical help; they should.
But for the others, if we can just adjust our thinking, take time out for ourselves and others, and really, really work with every fiber of our being for peace and wellness for all - through making sure that everyone has the basics of food, shelter, and love.
Smiles are free and even holding a door for an elderly person costs nothing in earthly terms but are priceless in the unseen world of caring.
No matter your religious affiliation, political party, or any other division you may find yourself in, believe in the concept that if you take the first step toward peace, love, and friendship, the world will be a better place, your mental health will give you the peace of mind you deserve, and life on earth will once again take a step forward so that all can live with each other and for each other.
We are all the same - in what we desperately need - our basic needs of love, and life.
While our uniqueness makes us who we are, stepping on others, or pushing our way to the top only leaves us bitter, and uncomfortable, even if we can't explain why we feel so empty and unfullfilled.
It may only take a hand-shake or a story read to a child or an elderly person who can no longer hold a book in their hands.
It can be sharing that first warm tomato that comes out of the garden, or letting another person pass you in traffic without going into road rage.
The solution to every problem in the world can be accomplished if everyone feels that they can take that first step to peace and love.
If we all feel that it is up to us, can you just imagine what life on planet Earth would be like? Why, the Final Frontier may just be all around us and paradise is where we are and that's just fine.
