How to Repair Deck Benches
- 1). Determine exactly what parts of the deck bench are in need of repair. Inspect the entire bench fully to make sure all worn parts are noted.
- 2). Measure the pieces that need repair and mark the measurements in a notepad.
- 3). Buy the necessary wood. For example, if the seat is broken, it is best to repair the entire seat which typically consists of three 8 feet long, 1 inch by 6 inch boards.
- 4). Check to see if the side boards will need to be replaced as well. This is often times a good idea so that you will not have to replace these later on down the road.
- 5). Cut the 1 inch by 6 inch boards to the proper length using the circular saw.
- 6). Treat each of the three boards with a wood sealer to help protect it from the harsh elements.
- 7). Attach the three seat boards to the sides using the penny nails, and the hammer.
- 8). If replacing the sides as well then take the correct measurements and build new sides for your bench.
- 9). Sand down the new seat planks and side boards with your sander to remove any possible splinters that may be present after re-construction of your deck bench.
- 10
Treat the entire bench with a new layer or two of wood sealer to ensure that you get many years of service out of the repair.
