How to Replace the Motor on a Kenmore 110.66912691 Dryer
- 1). Disconnect the dryer from the electrical outlet. Slide the dryer out from the wall and disconnect the dryer vent from the back of the dryer.
- 2). Slide a putty knife between the top panel and front panel on the left side. Press up to disengage the retaining clips holding the top panel in place. Repeat the process on the right side. Lift the top panel up and tilt it toward the back of the dryer. The panel is hinged along the back side, so tilt it back and lean it against the wall.
- 3). Remove the screws along the inside edges of the front panel. Disconnect the door switch wires. Tilt the front panel toward you and lift it up to disengage the panel's lower retaining clips. Slide the front panel off to the side.
- 4). Reach under the drum and press in on the idler arm attached to the motor to loosen the belt. The motor is located in the back right corner of the dryer. Slide the belt off of the drum. Make a note of how the belt is looped around the drum and motor so you can easily replace it later. Slide the drum forward and out of the dryer's cabinet.
- 5). Unplug the wiring harness from the motor. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pop loose the two retaining clips on each side of the motor.
- 6). Hold the front of the motor shaft still with an adjustable wrench. Use another adjustable wrench to unscrew the back of the motor shaft from the blower wheel. Lift the old motor up and out of the mounting bracket and remove it from the dryer cabinet.
- 7). Line the new motor up with the mounting bracket. There is a groove on the bracket and a tab on the motor frame that match up, so align them and rest the motor in the bracket. Grab the front of the new motor's shaft with a wrench to hold it still and screw the back of the shaft onto the blower wheel. Replace the retaining clips.
- 8). Slide the drum back into the dryer cabinet. Replace the belt and reloop it through the motor pulley and idler pulley. Replace the front and top panels. Reconnect the dryer vent and plug the dryer back into the outlet.
