How Do I Know When it Is Time to Neuter a Kitten?
- 1). Find out your cat's date of birth before you bring him home. Make a note on your calendar 5 1/2 to 6 months after the birth date.
- 2). Monitor your cat for signs of maturity. Signs include urine spraying and possible aggression toward you or other family members.
- 3). Make an appointment with your veterinarian when your kitten is about 5 months old to make sure your cat has all of his vaccinations. Your vet won't neuter your kitten if his vaccinations aren't up to date.
- 4). Have your kitten neutered at about 6 months of age. Some kittens may not begin to show signs of maturity until they're 8 months old, but neutering at 6 months will not harm his growth or development. Some veterinarians even recommend neutering at 4 months. Talk to your vet if you think there may be a reason for neutering your kitten that early.
