How to Tie Drop Weights on a Fishing Line & Hook
- 1). Feed the line through the eye of the hook. Slide the hook up the line to the point at which the line will be tied and the hook should be set. This may be determined by the level at which fish are suspended.
- 2). Tie an overhand knot and pass the loose end of the line through the loop six times. Allow the loop to remain large enough to easily work with and do not pull the twists tight. The hook should be at the center of the loop opposite the overlaps.
- 3). Feed the hook through the middle gap of the overlapped line. Pull the hook through and form a small loop below the larger overhand loop.
- 4). Pull the main line and short line apart slowly while maintaining the small drop loop at the hook. It may be necessary to adjust the size of the knot as the line is pulled tight. There should be a dime- to penny-sized loop when finished.
- 5). Tie an appropriately sized weight to the loose end of the line using a clinch knot. Pass the loose end of the line through the eye of the weight and then wrap around the main line for six to seven turns. Pass the end of the line through the small loop created above the eye of the weight and pull tight.
