Pre flight checks are very important for any radio controlled airplane in order to prevent any issues you may encounter while in flight which will reduce the chances of losing control and hurting your precious RC airplane.
Here are some mandatory pre flight checks:
1) All RC airplanes have a Center of Gravity (CG) that affects the plane's balance. The CG rule states that around 1/3rd of the wing chord (width) should be back from the leading edge of the wing. You must make sure it is like that.
2) The planes balance must be correct, so check it before flying. If the balance is correct then the airplaneââ¬â¢s nose should be pointing downwards. But if the airplaneââ¬â¢s tail is pointing downwards, then do not fly it, as it will result in a crash.
3) Make sure your radio range is working properly, so that you can fly your plane at a proper distance without losing signal. You will need to switch on the transmitter and receiver, with the transmitterââ¬â¢s antenna fully down. Move the control sticks and increase your distance slowly from the airplane. If they are responding well, then go ahead and fly.
4) It is advisable to launch your plane from the ground instead of your hand. Ground launch is a more systematic method. However few still follow the hand launch method. Like the name suggests, hold the plane with your hand at face level, turn on the power and give it a gentle push. Release the plane into the wind. For ground take off, make the airplane face into wind, and stand behind it. Turn on the engine and accelerate your plane along the ground. Your airplane should glide in the air, this is a sign that the airplane is doing all right. Never take the airplane close to buildings or trees while flying. Also, keep the airplane at a safe distance from yourself.
5) While landing your air plane, make sure you do it on a smooth surface. The airplane must be landed into wind on a smooth and flat surface.
