How to Make Doll Houses for Charity
- 1). Consider enlisting help to create your doll houses more efficiently. If you plan on making multiple doll houses, you may want to enlist some friends to work in an assembly line fashion. One person can be responsible for measuring and cutting, another could handle assembling, another for painting and so on.
- 2). Choose a design plan for your doll house. You want to design a house that would be easy to replicate, so you can make several at a time. To design a simple doll house, create a large box, leaving one side exposed so you can see inside. Depending on the material you choose, connect a piece of wood or cardboard on the inside of the box to create a second floor for the doll house.
- 3). Decide on the materials for your doll house. Cardboard is an inexpensive material that can be used to make very basic doll houses. For a sturdier doll house, try using thin pieces of wood cut to size with a circular saw. Assemble your doll house according to your design blueprints with nails or hot glue.
- 4). Personalize the doll house with paint, fabric and other decorative materials to make the house seem more real. Paint the outside of the box to look more like a house. You could even create a roof with pieces of wood cut with a miter box to fit at a point at the top of the house. Paint on windows and use real fabric for curtains.
- 5). Donate your doll houses to charitable organizations. You can donate your creations to youth-centered nonprofit organizations in your area year-round. Toys are also needed at children's hospitals, orphanages or even schools in need. Or, you can donate them during the holiday season to Toys for Tots or the Salvation Army.
