Change and the Next Step - Obama 2.0?

103 42
For those who are searching for change and cases where change happens need only to look at Obama; it is one of the biggest change agents of our time.
But has not everything already been said about this change? What more could one add to this change-discussion? Well probably the fact that this projected change is not going to be what many think.
Obama and the new team he configured over the last two months was able to prepare for action.
Preparing for action on problems that were known (like Guantanamo, or the abortus legislation).
But imagine what; the world has already changed: new problems arrive like the conflict between Israel and Hamas and other problems -- economic -- do not seem to fade.
There is more financial insecurity than ever.
And then there are the new and unforeseen problems.
In the area if change a question that has moved many is: how can change happen when people do not change that easily? It is often the importance of the leader that is the big motivator for change.
Yet a more recent example showed that health problems of such a leader (Steve Jobs) can undo-the projected change.
The Stock value of Apple declined heavily showing that a (new) leader is not only an opportunity but also a liability.
The risk of Obama is obviously the danger of an attempt on his life.
Or that his inspiration is not strong and enduring enough to solve today's issues.
The change is this time not so much about the message itself.
Many members of his team are not new, neither do they have a new role.
Hillary on foreign affairs -- secretary of state -- is an example.
And than are the many experts with a "Harvard background" who are recruited for difficult tasks.
but these experts have been there before too.
The change this time is not in the message itself, but in the medium.
It is how Obama used new media during his election campaign and he is targeting this new media again in order to keep in close contact with the citizens he represents.
Obama 2.
0 -- an ambitious effort to transform the president-elect's vast Web operation and database of supporters into a modern new tool to accomplish his goals in the White House...
the new president could have an unprecedented ability to appeal for help from millions of Americans who already favor his ideas, bypassing the news media to pressure Congress...
congressional Republicans are clueless about the communications shift that has happened...

In all we have seen with the banking crisis, there was no other country that stood up and took any form of leadership.
So its quite logical that the US under Obamo will take over leadership which it seemed to have lost lately.
Yet at the same time we should be cautious about this change.
If the change is not in the message, how will an Interactive Presidency change the course of history? So far the change of Obama was predominantly about the inspiration he brought about.
Which was in itself a big change, but others have inspired too.
Now it is time for the real next step.
The world is watching and most of all ...
waiting.
