Common Tree Ferns
- The Australian tree fern is probably the most commonly grown tree fern in the world. It can be found in most temperate zones, especially Australia and California. Though hardy, it can be damaged if exposed to harsh afternoon sun.
- The soft tree fern is found all over the West Coast of the U.S. as well as in Britain and Australia. It is long-lived, slow growing and reaches a height of about 15 feet.
- With its slender trunk and huge fronds, the lacy tree fern adds a dramatic touch to many Southern California landscapes.
- Even though it has soft hairs, the Hawaiian tree fern is one of the hardiest, tolerating temperatures as low as 28 degrees Fahrenheit before damage sets in.
