Homemade Wood Camp Chairs Patterns
- Some campers stay at the same camping area and on the same campsite every time they go on a camping trip. If this is your situation, plan camp chairs that are large and durable. If they will be there all season or multiple seasons, it doesn't matter if the chairs need a moving van (or at least a bit more effort) to get to the campsite. Using pressure-treated wood and stainless steel screws to assemble the seats gives them extra longevity.
- When it comes to portable, there's portable and then there's portable. What a camper who packs the gear into the back of a pickup truck or utility trailer thinks is portable mostly means the chair folds into a compact unit and takes up a minimum amount of cargo space when transported. A camper who packs his gear on his own back can still benefit from having a camping seat; in this case, though, even toting in a mini-seat adds too much weight and bulk to the pack. With a roll of stout twine, a small folding saw and some know-how, however, it's a simple project to cut some willows or small saplings and fabricate a simple camp stool right at the campsite.
- The purpose of your wooden camping seat impacts the seat's design. A seat you plan to use as a lounger to enjoy the sunshine or the campfire, or just sit in and read a book will be much different from a seat used to prop you up while eating a meal, donning your hiking boots or just taking a load off your feet for a short while. Choosing the design helps you build accordingly.
- Chair designs are available to build wooden seats that are very comfortable. If your goal is the ultimate in comfort or constructing the lightest possible chair, however, consider chairs designs that use wood for the framework but incorporate nylon or other fabric into the design to form the seat or back of the chair. The nylon is lighter in weight than any wood and more readily conforms to the contours of your seat and back.
