How to Replace the Mirror Door on a G4 Processor

    • 1). Remove all cables from the PowerMac G4. Turn the G4 so that the side with the Apple logo is facing you and the front of the G4 is facing left. Place the bath towel on the floor up against the side of the G4. Pull up on the locking latch at the back upper left corner of the G4. Pull the G4's side panel down onto the bath towel.

    • 2). Remove the screws from around the DVD drive that is at the upper left of the G4 with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Pull the DVD drive bay away from the front of the G4. Pull the two cables out of the back of the DVD drive that is in the top compartment of the DVD drive bay with your fingers. Pull the DVD drive bay out of the G4. Place the DVD drive bay aside.

    • 3). Release the metal clips at the corners of the mirror door on the inside of the left side of the G4 using the tip of the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver. Carefully insert the tip of the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver into the seam between the mirror door and the G4's casing on the door's upper left corner. Lift up on the tip of the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver to loosen the mirror door. Repeat this procedure on the upper right and both bottom corners of the mirror door. Pull the mirror door of the G4 with your fingers. Dispose of the mirror door properly.

    • 4). Place the replacement mirror door into the open space on the front of the G4 in the same position the original mirror door was placed. Push the replacement mirror door into the open space until the metal clips on it snap into position inside of the G4.

    • 5). Reattach the two cables to the back of the DVD drive in the DVD drive bay. Place the DVD drive bay back into position in the G4. Reattach the screws.

    • 6). Close the side panel. Pull down on the locking latch to secure the side panel. Turn the G4 back to its original position. Reattach the cables.
