- 1). Think about your speech; figure out who your audience is, how long you have to speak and the topic about which you are speaking. Write your outline with notes of what you hope to convey in your speech and keep that in mind throughout the speech-writing process. For example, if you are giving a speech to a group of 21 year olds about the dangers of drinking and driving, you want to convey to the audience that the act of drinking and driving is deadly.
- 2). Divide your speech into three parts: an introduction, body and conclusion. Use each portion of your speech to put your words in order -- making key points in each section.
- 3). Create your introduction to capture the attention of your audience by using a clever, witty or memorable opening line. Establish your credibility; your audience wants to know who you are and why you are speaking about this topic. If you are speaking about the dangers of drinking and driving, explain why you are talking about the subject. Perhaps you were a victim of the act or lost someone close to you because of a drunk driver.
- 4). Complete your introduction by creating a thesis statement, which is essentially the statement you want your audience to most remember. For example, finish your introduction by stating something along the lines of "Drinking and driving kills; the risk of taking a life or losing your life isn't worth it."
- 5). Create the body of your speech. In the body you want to use examples, talk about the main points of your speech and make your case. For example, you want to convey why drinking and driving is dangerous, what makes it dangerous, examples of why it is dangerous and to whom it is dangerous.
- 6). Conclude your speech by outlining your conclusion. Reiterate valid points made throughout the body of your speech, re-visit your thesis statement and close your speech by thanking your audience. This type of speech outline helps you write your speech as well as remember it when it's time to make it because you know the order of operations and the key points you want to make.
