How to Claim Federal Tax Withholding
- 1). Determine the total amount withheld on all of your W-2 forms by adding the amounts in box 2 of each form.
- 2). Check to see if there is an amount in box 4 on any of your 1099 forms. If so, add these numbers together.
- 3). Add the totals from Step 1 and Step 2 and put that number in box 61 of your Form 1040.
- 4). Finish your Form 1040 as you normally would.
- 1). Locate copies of each of the three payment vouchers (1040 ES) you completed when you sent in estimated payments. (They were due on April 15, June 15 and Sept. 15.)
- 2). Add the amounts from each of the voucher forms and put the total amount on line 62 of Form 1040.
- 3). Finish your Form 1040 as you normally would.
