How to Calculate GBPs
- 1). Look up the day's currency conversion rate to GBPs in the financial or business section of the newspaper. Most larger newspapers have this information listed for conversions from the local currency to major currencies, including the British pound.
- 2). Decide the amount of local currency you want to convert. Multiply the amount by the conversion rate using a calculator or by hand. For instance, if you're converting US$100 to GBP, and the currency conversation rate is US$1 to 0.61 GBP, multiply 100 by 0.61. This would equal 61 GBP.
- 3). Look up the currency conversion rate online as an alternative. Go to a site such as XE, Bloomberg or OANDA. These sites will have more up-to-the-minute information than the newspaper listing.
- 4). Multiply the conversion rate you learn online by the amount of currency you wish to convert. Alternatively, use the sites' currency conversion calculators to do the work for you. Select your currency as the original or "from" currency and GBP or pounds sterling as the "to" or new currency. Input the amount of currency you'd like to convert to see the automatic calculation.
