How to Snowboard Carve

    • 1). Start sliding downhill on your snowboard.

    • 2). Press down with the toes of your front foot. This starts the board turning in the direction your toes are pointing. Once the turn has started, you can hasten it by applying pressure with the toes of your back foot, too. You're now executing a toeside turn.

    • 3). Relax both feet so that your weight is balanced evenly between toes and heels. This will bring your board around so that it's pointing straight downhill again.

    • 4). Apply pressure back on the heel of your front foot. This starts your snowboard turning toward the heelside of the board. Once this turn has started, you can hasten it by applying pressure on the heel of your back foot, too.

    • 5). Balance your weight evenly between heels and toes; this will bring you back to pointing straight downhill. Go back to a toeside turn by applying pressure down on the toes of your front foot.

    • 6). Continue linking toeside turns to heelside turns all the way down the slope. This is how you learn to carve. As you get more comfortable, you'll be able to link the turns together more smoothly until you're spending all your time on one edge of the board or the other.
