The month of March lends itself to numerous crafts that third-graders can make to celebrate the many holidays during this month. From St. Patrick’s Day to Easter, there are a variety of themes and ideas you can try for crafts for kids in March. Discover some creative and fun activities to keep your third-grader, or class of third-graders, busy, and let them make some cute projects during this month. - For a creative St. Patrick’s Day project, let kids design their own shamrocks. Have kids trace a shamrock shape onto white construction paper and cut it out. They can then paint and color the shamrock to their liking. Supply glitter, stickers, paints and stamps to give kids a wide variety. Another similar idea is to make shamrock-shaped cookies and let kids decorate those.
- A classic March activity to celebrate the Easter holiday is to decorate Easter eggs with children. Hard boil eggs, set up various dyes on a craft table and let kids enjoy decorating their own eggs. You can even buy kits that provide stickers, glitter and other fun décor for eggs. To make eggs that will last for years, try having kids model egg shapes using modeling clay, then painting them.
- To pay homage to the classic saying that March weather comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, have kids make lion and lamb masks to wear. Take paper plates and cut out holes for eyes. Kids can then draw and color the face of a lion or lamb on their plates. For scruff and fur on their lion or lamb masks, they can use cotton balls and yarn. This is a good chance for third-graders to learn about old sayings and the ways phrases of language get passed from person to person.
- Another St. Patrick’s day craft to try is to make a festive mobile to hang up. Take a paper plate and fold in half, then cut across the fold, so that you have one half of a paper plate. Color a rainbow on your arched paper plate half, then have kids cutouts of other festive things like shamrocks, pots of gold or leprechauns to hang from the rainbow. You can then hang a string from the center top of the rainbow and hang your new mobile.
- Kids can also make bunny ears to celebrate Spring. Gather some white construction paper and a little bit of pink paper. Measure each kid’s heads and cut a construction paper band that will fit comfortably around it. You can then cut the shape of ears out of the white paper and cut a little smaller pink shape to represent the inside of the ears. Glue ears to the back of the band you measured, and let kids enjoy their new bunny ears.
