Hi. I'm Chase Thompson-Baugh with Simply Mac in Salt Lake City, Utah. Today I'm going to show you how to compress your videos for use on the Apple TV. So when you have a video that you're going to be using on the Apple TV, the best piece of software that I found to use it's also the most versatile piece is called Handbreak. And you can find it online, just do a quick Google search for Handbreak for Mac and PC. But let's go ahead and let's pull that up here. So here's Handbreak. Now it comes in and it already asks you what video do you want it to start working on. Handbreak can be used on your normal home videos that you've used and say like iMovie or and any other videos that you've brought in from maybe from email. And it can also work on your home DVDs as long as you own them. So let's go ahead and let's pick a video here. So I've got one of my favorite videos, Galaxy Quest. So we've got it loaded up here. Now there are a lot of settings as you can see. And I don't want you to get scared by this. Because Handbreak has some really awesome presets. So let's come over here to this window right here. And we're going to toggle those presets, which just means we're going to open them up. So as you can see here we have some devices and we have already some Apple TV presets. Depending on your Apple TV version you're going to choose one of these three. And that's always the best place to start. So we have an Apple TV3. We're going to choose Apple TV3. Now if that's all that you want to do then great. You can go ahead and just come up here and push start. And it will go ahead and it will process your video so that it can be played easily on an Apple TV. There are some other settings that I personally like to use and I'll show them to you really quickly. For instance right here on audio, if it's a video that I'm pulling off a DVD, I personally like to get all of the different language tracks, because I speak a couple different languages. So I like to come here and see if I can find any other languages and I might play around with some of the byte rates and things like that. But you know that's getting a little too more technical than what we really want to cover right now. I also come here to the subtitles. And I make sure that I can get all the subtitles that I want. One quick tip on pretty much any DVD or video. If there's a foreign search option, you want to select that. That's anytime they're speaking a different language in the video and a little subtitle pulls up at the bottom telling you what they're saying. That's subtitles that you always want in your videos otherwise you'll be kind of lost. So we'll go ahead and we'll leave that and then as advanced and chapters just leave those alone. Most of the time unless you absolutely know what you're doing the built in presets are just perfect for that. So then we can go ahead and hit start. Now this will go ahead and it will put the desktop on your video file on your desktop typically and then you can go ahead and you can drag that right into the iTunes window. And that's how you're going to go ahead and compress your videos for use in iTunes.
