    • 1). Select the two stationary locations which you will hang the clothesline from. This can be two poles or trees, or any other stable structures to which you can attach both ends of the line.

    • 2). Determine how high you want to hang the line. Because you will not be using a ladder, this should logically be the highest level that you can raise your arms to without straining.

    • 3). Determine the needed length of the line you are installing. This can be done by pulling a line across the floor underneath the area where the line is to be hung.

    • 4). Mark the level at which you want to hang the line, using an item such as chalk or a marker.

    • 5). Attach the first side of the line. You have two options for this: You can insert hooks, which is most advisable because it will keep the line from slipping, or you can simply tie the line to the pole or tree. If you opt for the tying method, you must remember that there will be heavy wet garments hanging on the line, and if it is not securely fastened, the line could give way and slip under the weight of the clothes.

    • 6). Attach the second end of the line using the method that you used above.

    • 7). Test the line before hanging clean clothes on it.
