The History of Headaches and What to Do With Them
Headaches are caused by a number of things like: dehydration, hypoglycemia, trauma, and other forms of stress, subluxation, hormonal imbalance, trigger points, etc.
Some people have tried so many different treatments and still have headaches.
Most people are unaware that some headaches could be caused by an event long ago - namely, their birth! Let me explain.
During a birth (natural), a doctor can use as much as seventy five pounds of pressure to pull the baby out.
An infant has very movable bones in the head which make it easier for the birth process.
Those bones also move (expand) to accommodate the cerebrospinal fluid as it goes up into the head (within the Dura) and (contract) when the fluid goes down the spinal cord.
These processes continue throughout our lives.
Sometimes during the birth process, pressure on the cranial bones may cause one or more bones to get stuck.
This would disrupt the natural movement of the cranial bones.
The result will be pain in the form of what we know as headaches.
The body will attempt to protect us for as long as possible by producing endorphins.
This will allow us to ignore this problem for a while because we don't even know there is a problem.
When the body can no longer produce enough endorphins, we will experience pain.
The person experiencing pain will not remember the incident that caused the pain.
Years ago I recall treating a young child who was experiencing numbness on one side of his face and terrible headaches.
He was scheduled for surgery and when his mom told me about the surgery, I asked if her son had been a natural birth.
She said "Yes".
I asked if he was born with one side of his face blue and she answered excitedly, "Yes".
I told her that her son may have a bone stuck out of place and I asked if she would give me permission to perform a cranial session with him.
She again said, "Yes".
During the cranial session (using very light pressure, about the weight of a dime) on the young teenaged boy and while performing a temporal lift hold, I heard a loud POPPING sound.
After completion of the treatment, the young boy had the biggest smile on his face.
Later that night, he experienced a retracing (correction) effect from the treatment.
He had a fever, and the mother rushed the young boy to the hospital.
By the time she arrived, a check of his symptoms revealed normal temperature, and he felt great.
His mom cancelled the surgery and he never had the numbness in his face again.
That treatment was performed in 1996 and I asked the mother sometime in 2010 and she said he was doing great and had never suffered from those symptoms since.
I am a firm believer that a licensed chiropractor with bio-cranial training can be a wonderful asset when introduced to your newborn soon after birth.
