Hiking And Geocaching

I have been a hiking and outdoors enthusiast since I was a young teenager.
I love to get out in the fresh air and enjoy great scenery with the birds and other wildlife.
There is a new sport developing all over the world which make use of a GPS unit and hiking.
It is called Geocaching.
The definition of Geocaching from the official web site is as follows: Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users.
Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit.
The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet.
GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches.
Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards.
All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.
So far I have located 15 caches in my area.
Most are hidden on or near hiking trails in or around conservation areas and public parks.
In Ontario we are blessed with thousands of conservation areas and public parks with hiking trails criss crossing the province and connections to the trans Canada hiking trail.
Because of my strong interest in both hiking and now geocaching, I have decided to create a hiking and geocaching website called ontario-hiking.
com
.
So far I have managed to add 19 hiking destinations in and around my home town.
But this is just the tip of the iceberg.
As I mentioned earlier there are thousands more destinations all across the province.
As for geocaching, I have never traveled more than 1 hour from my doorstep to find my first 15 and there are at least 50 more within an hours drive of my home town.
If you enjoy hiking and you can afford $200 for a GPS unit this could be just the thing for you.
