How to Measure Moulding
- 1). On the paper, draw a rough sketch of the room. Make sure it is big enough to write down the lengths of all of the walls segments next to the segment.
- 2). Label each wall segment with a letter. These will be used to identify each piece of moulding later.
- 3). Mark out the lengths on the moulding. The lengths of the walls on the paper correspond to the length of the back (flat) side of the moulding. For recessed corners, the back side will be longer than the front side when a 45 degree angle is cut into the moulding. For protruding corners, the back side of the moulding will be shorter than the front side, meaning the moulding actually has to be longer than the wall by the width of the moulding per protruding corner.
- 4). Label the back of each piece of moulding with the letter corresponding to its placement along the wall.
