How to Put on a Crib Skirt
- 1). Remove the mattress from the crib.
- 2). Assess the height of the crib support for your child's age and activity level and adjust as necessary. The crib support should be either a panel of metal springs or wooden slats whose height can be changed. The highest level is for when your baby is immobile or just learning to roll over. Once the baby can sit and crawl, it is advisable to move the height to one of the middle levels. The lowest level is for when your baby can stand. This gives the child enough room to stand without being able to climb or fall out of the crib.
It is important to note that some cribs have a snap-and-lock system for the mattress support while others need to be secured into place with screws. Depending on the manufacturer and model, you may need a screwdriver or Allen wrench to remove, adjust and secure the mattress support. - 3). Lay the crib skirt across the mattress support. If the crib has slats for the sides, gently pull the skirt through the slats and in between the railing and crib support. Do this for each side of the crib. If the crib sides are solid, gently push the skirt edges between the sides and mattress support. Then crawl under the crib to pull the skirt through the sides and mattress support to hang and display properly.
- 4). Smooth the top of the crib skirt on the mattress support, straightening the skirt as necessary. Place the mattress into the crib.
