Create a Treasure Chest

• This is a very simple wood craft that children as well as adults will enjoy making. Visit the wood section of your local hobby store. There you should be able to find a wooden box or chest that is unpainted and unfinished. Choose acrylic paints in colors of your choosing and a paint brush. Paint the treasure chest and, if you would like, buy stencils and use a different color paint to stencil the object onto your treasure chest. Allow to dry for 48 hours. This is now a decorative piece that can also store items such as mail, bills, or, depending on the size, blankets or throws.
  
  

Build a Doll House

• If you would like to create a wood craft that will be loved and enjoyed, a doll house is a great option. If you visit your local hobby store you can buy a set or plans to build a doll house. The sets are easier because all of the pieces are cut out; you simply need to put them together. If you buy the plans you should have more experience as well as a scroll saw and the ability to buy plywood or the type of wood that is recommended in the plans.
  Follow the plans or instructions in the kit to build the doll house. When the doll house is built, rub any rough edges with sandpaper, especially if it is for play and not just display. Buy acrylic paint in the colors of your choice and apply with an appropriately sized brush. Allow 48 hours to dry. Cover with a clear sealant to prevent cracking or peeling. Dry another 48 hours.
  
  

Creative Holiday Yard Décor

• Visit your local hobby store around the holidays. There you will find wood cut-outs that are ready to be painted and enjoyed. Pick up acrylic paints in the colors of your choosing as well as appropriately sized paint brushes. Wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth and allow to dry. Apply the paint to the wooden surface, allowing 24 hours between coats of paint.
  After 48 hours, apply an outdoor sealant on top of the paint. This sealant will prevent the paint from chipping, cracking or peeling when exposed to the elements. Allow 48 hours to dry before placing it in your yard.
